CONNECTION TO PILSEN:

I was born and raised in Pilsen neighborhood. My connection to the neighborhood runs deep because this is where I went to elementary school, high school and where I currently live and work. I currently work in the elementary schools in Chicago and I help out the kids with IEP's who are academically and sometimes socially challenged.

ARTIST BIO/STATEMENT:

My artwork is about the challenges I have faced being born female in a religious and sexist environment. Ever since I can remember as a child I was told the things I was not allowed to do as a girl or woman the first one was, I can never be a preacher, then an engineer, then a president, then a slut. I also had to be kind and maintain my figure and be good at house chores and cooking. I had to ask myself many times "What I have always wanted to do?" in order to heal myself.
