CONNECTION TO PILSEN:
Since the late 1980's, Pilsen has always welcomed me with open arms and has watched me grow into the artist that I am today. Our love affair began at Casa Aztlan, where I volunteered as a Youth Peer Mentor which led to curating small group exhibitions at Calles Y Sueños with Ritual Magazine and then participating in the very first 18th Street Open Studios with POLVO Art Collective. And now, almost 20 years later 18th Street Open Studios continues to give our community a voice and a place to call home.
Born and raised in Chicago, Mendoza received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has exhibited in the U.S. and abroad including exhibitions at the National Museum of Mexican Art, Galeria De La Raza, and VU Space -Victoria University, Australia.
His current work is an introverted paranoid discourse which examines abstract and conceptual relationships through visual conversations moderated by Bipolar 1 Disorder.
