CONNECTION TO PILSEN:
Been visiting Pilsen & local muralists since 1969, after my first mural in Cabrini, esp. since 1970, when met Ray Patlan. Co-organized the Anti-World War 3, mural on Western & 19th, 1980. Moved to Pilsen in 2006, to a studio & apartment on Cermak, adviced by Duarte, to equalize my and my wife's commutes... Participated in Open Studios since then.
Moved to Chicago, 1966, to do an MFA at SAIC on full tuition scholarship. Got a teaching job at Elmhurst U. and stayed, retired in 2012. Always living in Chicago or Oak Park. Printmaking since elementary school. Inspired by Wall of Respect, painted first mural in 1969. Organized Chicago Mural Group, with Bill Walker. Now Chicago Public Art Group. Painted murals, later cement relief and mosaics. After 1980/81 invited to lead workshops & public art outside Chi: England, France, Spain, Mexico, Iowa, Los Angeles, New York City. Began installations of large canvases in church and university spaces. Participated in numerous group theme shows. Carved brick relief collaborations, first in 1999, led to MLK memorial in Marquette Park w/ Sonja Henderson 2016, my last big commission. Since then, painting and relief printing in studio.
