CONNECTION TO PILSEN:
We are a local cafe. We opened almost 2 years ago making ours a community space not only offering products and services but also a space for sharing the rich diversity or our city, neighborhood and community. We've had a great connection with our neighbors.
ARTIST BIO/STATEMENT:
Ines Gardea Photography.., I was born in Mexico, we emmigrated to the U.S. when I was 3, raised in Chicago served in the Marines 76-80 and has lived the American Dream. I started getting into photography in 8th grade, bought my first 35mm camera while stationed in Japan. I self taught myself photography by reading books and practice practice practice. I asked myself a few yrs ago, "Where did my eye for photography started?" As a youngster I would shine shoes by 18th st and would stop at a Barber Shop (Now the 'Jumping Bean Coffee shop') they had fotos of the Mexican Revolution displayed on the window and I would spend hours there studying those fotos. As time went by I got involved more into photography by photographing weddings, portraits. Now as I've gotten older I mainly photograph Landscapes, Cityscapes, Sunrises/Sunsets and Nature. I look for little things people don't look for in a photograph. I've had photo-shoots for NBC/Chicago, Chicago Tribune. I have fotos hanging in peoples homes through out the U.S..., I was once told that photography is not an art, my response to that is that LIGHT is our paintbrush. With out light we'd have nothing to photograph.
