18th Street Pilsen Open Studios
Every participating artist is asked to talk about their connection to Pilsen. And if new to the neighborhood, to describe what drew them here.
This is what Denise shares with us:
"I have been in Pilsen over 15 years, I have lived, loved, and learned so much while here and although I am not as active in the art community as I should be I am so grateful that Pilsen is such a great artist community because inspiration and motivation is everywhere! I am always happy about the events going on and am inspired all the time living here. It is a place I'd like to make my home for another 15 years!"

ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT
One of my favorite quotes by artist Edgar Degas is "I'm glad I haven't found my style yet. I'd be bored to death." This quote resonates with me because often I am so overwhelmed with the amount of ideas and images that linger in my head. Little by little they escape into the physical form of art. I am all over the place mostly when creating and sometimes I do not even know what the end result will look like but I just follow the marks and my gut and that is how most of my art is made, often through lots of editing. "Distracted by happiness" has become a motto for me. It started as a way to describe why I was not creating as much artwork as I used too. I was happy in love and that's all I wanted to be involved with, it distracted me from everything else! Now, it's about finding and holding onto the happiness no matter what and incorporating it into the realities of life however ugly it may be. It's something I am always discovering because in the end happiness is all that I want and require.
