ARTIST BIO(s) / SHOW STATEMENT

My name is Elizabeth Alvarado I am a Chicago artist from Pilsen neighborhood born and raised. I love making art about nature such as landscapes and animals. However, my current show is about more complex things. It is expressing traumatic topics like past partners stalking, domestic violence, group betrayal/fake friends and the body holding trauma as pain.

CONNECTION TO PILSEN:

My connection to Pilsen neighborhood runs deep. I grew up in Pilsen neighborhood near the area that is now called Heart of Chicago. I always saw art around me and I liked to draw, photograph and paint.

When I got older I became involved in my community working at the Boys and Girls Club One a non profit that had many programs for the neighborhood children. Then I worked at the Gads Hill Center that focused more on the academics of the children while their parents are at work. At the time I didn't realize many kids I worked with had learning disabilities.

Now I am passionate about working with kids at the Chicago Public Schools in Pilsen neighborhood who have Special Needs. After working with kids in the neighborhood who didn't have their parents at home to help them with homework and had language barriers. I decided this was the career I belong in.
